If you play an orchestral instrument - YOU are the reason we exist!
The South Texas Symphonic Orchestra invites classically trained musicians who want to play in a full orchestra with other skilled musicians simply for the joy of playing. It is a volunteer, auditioned orchestra for musicians 18 years old and older.
For your audition, you will be asked to play two things: 1. a prepared selection from our list below, 2. a 30-60 second etude or piece of music of your choice that shows your range and skill. Click below on the link that corresponds to your instrument and print it off.
Judges will consider both aspects of your performance before assigning chairs.
THEN WHAT After all auditions have taken place, you will be notified which concerts you have been selected to play. You will be given a rehearsal schedule and be asked to make a commitment to attend all rehearsals and play for all concerts assigned up to the full season if needed. You should expect to attend 4-5 rehearsals before each concert.
Information regarding rehearsals:
All rehearsals will be from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (15 min break) on Monday nights. As with any fine orchestra you'll be expected to have your music prepared before you arrive for the first rehearsal.
Prior to the first rehearsal, all orchestra members are asked to pay a music fee of $35.00. This will help ensure that you have music for the full 2017 – 2018 concert season. All concerts will be on a Sunday at 3:00 PM.
All orchestra members will receive two complimentary tickets to each concert.
Auxillary Instruments: If any of these are your exclusive instrument, please select a corresponding instrument above for your audition music. Piccolo Bass Clarinet Contra-Bassoon English Horn
